He has been the Director of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Research Center at Feng Chia University (FCU) for 20 years\, and honored as Distinguished Professor at Dept. of Urban Planning and Spatial Information and Dept. of Land Management. \nWith his profession and enthusiasm\, Prof. Chou has performed an outstanding achievement with his 170 full time staff members at GIS Research Center to bring the GIS.FCU as one of the leading role in the GIS-related academic and industry fields domestically and globally. \nGIS.FCU has implemented a wide range of researches and projects\, from data infrastructure\, security and monitoring\, resources management\, UAV\, fleet management\, big data\, smart city\, cloud computing to even mobile facilities application product. Prof. Chou also supervises graduate students and teaches courses pertaining to GIS science\, land management\, and resources management at FCU. \nKeynote 2: Technology\, Customer Choice\, and The Electric Grid\nMichael Quinn (VP Strategy and Chief Technology Officer\, Oncor Electric Delivery\, USA)\n \nMichael Quinn is Vice President Strategy and Chief Technology Officer for Oncor Electric Delivery. He has been charged with setting the company’s course in transforming the value of the electric grid through innovative\, technology-driven and customer focused solutions that meet the growing and changing needs of the market. His work impacts system performance and capital spending\, legislative and regulatory efforts\, customer engagement\, and future business model evolutions. \nHe joined Texas Utilities\, Oncor’s predecessor company\, in 1988 and has had assignments in Nuclear Generation\, Fossil Generation\, System Protection\, Asset Management\, Grid Operations\, Business Development\, Federal Advocacy and Corporate Strategy. As part of his responsibilities\, he works closely with Capital One’s Auto Finance and Home Loans businesses in delivering on its Digital and Business Transformation agenda. David also works broadly across Capital One\, interfacing with Corporate Strategy\, Enterprise Services\, and Corporate Development to define the implications of broader Capital One strategic initiatives on Financial Services\, helping shape the division’s strategy for growth by evaluating investments\, acquisitions\, and new asset classes/partnerships for Capital One. \nPrior to joining Capital One\, David served for 10 years as a consultant with McKinsey & Company\, where he was most recently an Associate Partner. What China really needs\, is\ndeep structural reforms that will be heavily dependent on technology innovations. This presents many great opportunities to oversea Chinese professionals with deep STEM expertise. \nIn this technical forum\, we want to bring together DFW area technical professionals to discuss the various opportunities and the many ways we can connect and participate in China economic transformation\, and get more value out of our individual technical expertise. We focused specifically on application and how personalization is revolutionizing our daily life. \n \n \n \nSpeaker Information\nKeynote: Joel Austin\, VP & Chief Information Officer\, Oncor Electric Delivery\n\nJoel Austin is the Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Oncor\, the sixth largest electric Transmission and Distribution Company in the United States. As head of Oncor’s Information Technology organization\, Austin is responsible for strategy\, information security\, new systems development and production operations and management of Oncor’s extensive sourcing relationships. \nBeginning five years ago\, Oncor initiated one of the most comprehensive advanced grid investment programs. As a result of this $1-billion-per-year investment program\, Oncor is quickly proving itself a technology company as much as an electric utility. Austin oversees the implementation and operation of information technology platforms and communication networks\, as well as management of the massive influx of data that enables the company to improve grid operation and customer interaction. He also is responsible for safeguarding Oncor’s data\, ensuring that Oncor’s and its customers’ data is managed and secured in the safest way possible and meets the highest industry standards. \nUnder his leadership\, Oncor’s grid\, one of the nation’s most advanced smart grids\, safely communicates billions of bits of data through a secure network while its power lines move electricity to 3.2 million homes and businesses in Texas. The data is used by Oncor to measure the amount of electricity its customers are using and is available for Oncor’s customers to monitor their electric usage through web-enabled solutions that can help them lower their electric bills. In 2012\, Austin was part of the team that linked Oncor’s advanced metering system with its outage management system\, allowing for wireless and automatic communication and repair of potential power issues on the grid. \nHe has more than 26 years of experience in the energy\, finance and software industries at Informix\, ENSERCH\, Deloitte & Touché and the Texas Utility companies\, where he has held a number of business operations\, IT and leadership roles. \nAustin serves on several educational and civic boards\, including the Information Technology Operations Management Advisory Board at Southern Methodist University and Treasurer\, and Board Member for the North Texas Business Council for the Arts. \nAustin holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in business from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. \nWeijun Lee\, VP Cloud Computing and IT Division\, ZTE Texas USA\n\nMr. Weijun Lee is a veteran in the telecom industry for 20+ years and leads the technical marketing and strategic directions of ZTE\’s multimedia and cloud computing solutions. He has spoken at major industry fora including Mobile World Congress\, TV Connect Forum (formerly IPTV World Forum)\, Broadband World Forum\, TelcoVision\, and CTIA. \nPrior to joining ZTE\, Weijun was a System Architect in the CTO Office in Santera Systems\, a startup acquired by Tekelec in 2005. And before that\, Weijun worked as System Engineering Manager for Nortel Networks in Canada and USA. respectively. \nWeijun holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science at University of Toronto\, Canada\, and a Bachelor degree in Computer Science at Univesity of Science and Technology of China. \nBill Beesley\, Principal Solutions Architect\, Fujitsu Network\n\nBill Beesley brings 20 years of telecommunications industry experience to his current role as a principal solutions architect for packet optical networking at Fujitsu Network Communications. He is responsible for providing business development and product strategy for Fujitsu packet optical networking solutions\, focusing on architecting solutions that support the cable and MSO industry. \nPrior to joining Fujitsu in 2011\, Bill worked at Cox Communications for 14 years\, where he held a variety of executive engineering and leadership roles at both the corporate and system level. \nBill holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management from Bellevue University in Nebraska\, and a Master of Applied Science in Telecommunications Management from the University of Denver. He is also an MEF Carrier Ethernet Certified Professional (MEF-CECP). \nJon Pettit\, AMI Program Manager\, Oncor Electric Delivery\n\nJon has been with Oncor Electric Delivery (and the former TXU family of companies) for over 28 years. He started his career as a nuclear power plant engineer doing construction\, startup\, operations\, and technical support. Following this\, he was an energy consultant\, project manager\, business planner\, and asset manager. He then served a one year tour with TXU Energy as a Community Relations Manager before having the welcome opportunity to go back to Oncor. He is currently the Advanced Metering System Program Manager for Oncor Electric Delivery. \nHe is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas with a BS in electrical engineering from Texas A&M and an MBA from Tarleton State University. He lives in Fort Worth with his wife and two children. Additionally\, he’s a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) and served a tour in Operation Iraqi Freedom during 2005. \nMaria Wei\, CEO\, ATCG Solutions\n\nMaria Wei is the Founder and Managing Partner at ATCG Solutions. For the last 11 years\, she focused on various Business Intelligence\, Big Data and Social Media Analytics Projects across multiple industries. Now she is leading the big data analytics practice at ATCG Solutions. \nPrior to starting ATCG Solutions\, She led the BI practice at IBM for the distribution sector. Where she worked with leaders from various large public companies on future BI roadmap\, and usage of data to improve business process and performance. \nShe has also been an influential speaker at universities and industry conferences on Data and Business Intelligence Topics. \nEd Hightower\, Technical Solutions Manager\, BlackBerry Corporation\nEd Hightower is a Technical Solutions Manager at Blackberry USA. His expertise in wireless\, networks\, software\, engineering sales and most recently IoT/M2M\, including the Weightless standard\, has led to multiple opportunities to work with enterprise customers in advancing their technology offerings. Ed has worked at AT&T\, Nortel\, Ericsson\, Lynx Real-Time Operating Systems and Motorola.. As an active member of the tech community\, Ed volunteers his time with the Metroplex Technology Business Council promoting the Telecom Corridor and has spoken at several IEEE luncheons. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington. \nAriton Xhafa\, Senior Technical Staff & Project Manager in IoT Lab\, Texas Instruments Inc.\nAriton Xhafa received his Ph.D. degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Ariton is with IoT Lab at Texas Instruments (TI) and is a well-known expert on wireless networks protocol design\, algorithms and standardization. Ariton has led TI’s efforts in IEEE 802.11n on medium access control\, where his efforts led to creation of new adhoc group to find and propose solutions for 20/40 MHz problem. Ariton also led multi-radio wireless coexistence project in 2.4 GHz band\, focusing and developing optimal solutions for WLAN/Bluetooth coexistence. Ariton is currently leading the project in IoT Lab that enables and differentiates TI’s radio platforms while making them IoT ready. Ariton has filed more than 95 patent applications with 35 patents issued\, and has published 9 journal papers and more than 35 conference papers. Ariton is a Senior Member of IEEE\, Senior Member Technical Staff at TI\, and regularly serves as TPC member and Session Chair in IEEE flagship conferences. \nCraig Lee\, Director of IoT Foundry\, AT&T\nCraig Lee is the Director of the AT&T Internet of Things Foundry located in Plano TX which fosters “The Art of the Possible” in Internet of Things innovation and solutioning. \nPrior to his current position\, Lee has served as Director of Technical Resources and Solutioning within the AT&T IoT Center of Excellence\, responsible for the architecting\, development and deployment of customers IoT solutions. \nAdditionally\, Lee has served in several previous IoT focused leadership positions at AT&T spanning over 13 years. \nPrior to AT&T\, Mr. Lee served in leadership positions at Motorola\, Racal\, and GTRI in the areas of business development\, RF & electronic design engineering\, and pure research. \nCraig Lee has been awarded nine US patents. \nA native of Alaska\, Mr. Lee earned a BSEE from Georgia Institute of Technology\, a MBA from Nova Southeastern University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. from University of Texas at Dallas in Telecommunications Engineering.

Subsequent to the recent retirement this year from Texas Instruments\, Dr. Wang joined the Board of Directors of a private company responsible for the company’s restructuring activities and direction setting.\nWhile in Texas Instruments (TI)\, as General Manager of worldwide printer head business unit\, Dr. Wang was responsible for the general worldwide management of the company’s printer head integrated circuit business group. His responsibilities cover the full scope of business activities from marketing\, customer relationships and new technology/product development to factory manufacturing operation and supply chain management of six factories located around the world. Prior to the business assignment\, Dr. Wang worked in operation which he contributed to 4 advanced wafer fab start-ups and served as wafer fab manager of two TI advanced wafer fabs. Prior to TI\, Dr. Wang was the Director of Crystal Engineering/QA of Ethyl Corporation. Prior to this\, Dr. Wang was a Member of the Technical Staff of the Hewlett-Packard Company.\nFaa-Ching earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University. He received a Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh\, and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from National Central University in Taiwan.\nDr. Wang holds four U.S. patents and five invention disclosures\, and is the author of 39 articles published in a variety of technical publications. He is the recipient of the 2009 Asian American Engineering of the Year Award\, National Engineering Week Foundation and Chinese Institute of Engineering/USA\, and the recipient of the 1999 National Asian American Corporate Achievement Award\, Organization of Chinese Association. She has demonstrated various successful cross domain collaboration cases\, where she teamed up non-ICT technology providers with ICT technology providers to develop and deploy high value added smart energy and smart building systems or solutions.\nDr. Feng received her B. S. degree from National Chiao-Tung University in 1984. She received her M.S.E.E. and Ph.D. degrees from Northeastern Universities in 1986 and 1989\, individually. Since 1987\, she worked at BBN Systems and Technologies from 1987 to 1989 in the area of speech recognition and speaker adaptation. Dr. Feng worked at Southeastern Bell Technology Resources Inc. and GTE Laboratories from 1989-1996 in the area of automated telecom services and video services. DESCRIPTION:Roles and Responsibilities of Asian Universities in a New Global Academic-Business Paradigm\nby Dr. Da-Hsuan Feng\n \n21st century\, even in these fledgling moments\, is met with transformational changes. These changes cannot be more obvious than the creation of a new Global academic- business paradigm. Sitting in the middle of this paradigm is Asia\, especially North Asia\, Southeast Asia and South Asia. These regions are indeed the focus of the world in the 21st century. They are undergoing dizzying economic\, cultural\, political and unexpected and 20th century unthinkable tectonic shifts. With this as underpinning\, Dr. Feng’s talk which could be a summary of his five year stay in Asia\, breathing day in and day out of higher education atmosphere\, will discuss what mindset Asian higher education needs to have in order to navigate in such exciting and turbulent waters. Indeed\, what and how Asian universities are meeting or attempting to meet their new challenges and become the engines of progress for their respective regions. He was born in New Delhi\, India and has been a global traveler ever since. He was a Technical advisor to Vice Chairman of the US Congressional Arm Services Committee from 1995 to 1998\, Vice President of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) from 1998 to 2000\, Vice President for Research and Economic Development of The University of Texas at Dallas from 2001 to 2007\, Senior Executive Vice President\, National Cheng Kung University from 2007 to 2011. In 2007\, he was appointed by Li Ka-Shing Foundation to be a Board of Trustees member of Shantou University. He was also a co-Chair since 2007 of the Britton Chance Center for Biomedical Photonics of Huazhong University of Science & Technology. In 2011\, he was appointed by Elsevier to be a member of its Academic Executive Advisory Board. He also co-sponsored CIRA. He has collaborated with Asian colleagues over past 30 years – including becoming the Honorary Board of Trustees of Nanjing University in 2003\, and becoming honorary and guest professors of twelve Mainland’s universities
