Parenting Seminar:

“21st Century Success: Beyond Math Competitions”

by David Cordeiro, Manager at HP Enterprise Services

Abstract:

The problem solving and discrete math skills students learn to be successful in elementary and middle school math competitions are necessary but not sufficient for success in the rapidly emerging fields of the 21st Century.  Universities and employers seek deep thinkers and innovators who can understand and adapt quickly to the technology and market trends that can make fortunes or bankrupt companies.  As a leader in the HP Enterprise Cloud Services business unit, David Cordeiro faces the challenge of recruiting people with the unique skill set to solve challenging problems and to work across his global development team.  As a parent and the parent coordinator of the Metroplex Math Circle and the Circle of Circles, Mr. Cordeiro sees the solution to this global problem in a new generation of students whose parents provide them a broader and deeper mathematical education than has ever been offered by a single school.
