2019 MathComp Winner, Test Results, Questions, and News Release
MathComp
The first program “MathComp” (Math Competition) provides young students an opportunity to demonstrate their math problem solving skills. Registration is required. Early registration fee is $15 before May 16th, then $20 before May 27th. All students Grades 1~8 are welcome!
Contestants will participate only for the same grade he or she is at the 2018-2019 academic year. Sandbagging may result in being disqualified. Top scorers and honorable mentions will be awarded to each grade, and the names of the winners will be published on the CIE/USA-DFW Chapter\’s website.
Parenting Seminar and Panel Discussion:
While students are competing at the MATH test, all parents are invited to attend the Parenting Seminar and Panel Discussion (the second program), which is free to MathComp participants\’ parents.
2019 Speakers and Panelists:
Dr. Jianzhong Su
Dr. Jianzhong Su received his B.S in Applied Mathematics from Shanghai Jiaotong University and earned his PhD in mathematics from University of Minnesota. He is a professor of Mathematics and the chairman of the Department of Mathematics, University of Texas at Arlington.
His research area is in applied mathematics related to computational neuroscience, optical diffusive tomography and mathematical biology.
Jett Wang (Student)
Jett Wang is incoming 2019 MIT freshman. He has been active in high school math contests, and qualified for the 2019 USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) team. He is also 2018 USA Physics Olympiad Bronze Medalist.
Richard Luo (Student)
Richard is a senior student from Highland Park high school. An avid STEM enthusiast, he gained his first exposure to competition math at the CIE Math Competition. He competed in many years, and continued his involvement by volunteering at many CIE events. Richard will attend Harvard in the Fall 2019.
MathFun
The third program “MathFun” is an interactive program which allows parents and children to work together in solving engineering quizzes & games and stimulating their interest in mathematics. Each year, around 20 schools, companies, institutions, and organizations bring interesting math and engineering materials onsite and interact with the students. This is the fun part of the fair that students look forward to. Don\’t miss this great opportunity to get your students involved in the wonderful world of math and engineering! MathFun is open to general public.
