Dr. Simon Yeung, Senior Vice President, R & D, PepsiCo

Dr Simon Yeung is a senior R&D executive experienced in multiple technologies and markets. His industry experience and knowledge includes power generation, transportation, controls, plastics, coatings, renewable energy, consumer electronics, consumer goods, composites, and packaging. In addition to being an innovator personally with multiple patents, Dr Yeung has led and transformed large, global organizations in product development, total cost out, and technical services for corporations while balancing multiple objectives and budgets. He has successfully commercialized technology platforms, and is well versed in intellectual property and technology transfer, contract and partnership negotiation (e.g. JDA, JV), capital projects, Six Sigma, as well as experienced in working with and facilitating cross-functional teams to create and implement strategic plans that yield significant and margin-accretive results.

Dr Yeung started his professional career at General Electric Corporate R&D center, where he worked on research projects in multiple areas. He moved to GE Plastics (now SABIC Innovation Plastics) where he held a number of R&D leadership positions in process technology, product development, and platform development. In 2007, Dr Yeung joined The Dow Chemical Company as Solar R&D Director, where he started the Dow Solar business. In 2009, he was named Global R&D Director for Materials Science and Engineering in Corporate R&D in Dow Chemical, where he led a global, multi-disciplinary organization engaging in innovative research and development activities in materials science, materials and parts design, modeling, and processing. He also led and implemented a front-end exploration approach in technology assessment and development, as well as Six Sigma for Corporate R&D in Dow Chemical. Dr Yeung then spent 4 years at Avery Dennison, first as the Global Vice President of R&D for Graphics and Reflective Solutions (GRS) and Performance Tapes (PT) with a combined revenue of $850MM, then as Global Vice President of Segment Innovation responsible for leading innovation for 8 different market segments with the total revenue exceeding US$4.7B. After that, he went to Valspar where he was Vice President of R&D for Consumer Paint for Valspar Corporation. He joined PepsiCo in Jan 2017 as Senior Vice President R&D, Snacks Functions Capability, responsible for science and technology for Snacks worldwide. In addition, Dr Yeung holds board membership in a number of organizations, including most recently PaintCare and Corporate Visiting Committee for Case Western Reserve University.

CIE/USA-DFW Chapter (CIE) is a non-profit, politically-neutral organization focusing on engineering and professional well-being and networking. 
 
In order to keep the Chapter a high standard professional organization, I, as a director/officer/volunteer of the Organization, recognizes the responsibilities and the obligations of the position, do hereby declare to abide by the Code of Ethics in discharging my duties.
  • I agree that my motivation in accepting the position is to promote the mission and vision of the Organization;
  • I agree to obey the letter and the spirit of the laws, the Charter, and the by-laws that govern the Organization as a non-profit entity;
  • I agree that it is my duty to inform the members of issues that concern the members or the Organization in a fair and honest manner; but I will not take sides to advocate any political position, nor will I endorse any political candidate in my official capacity as a director/officer/volunteer of the Organization;
